Ron Barr is a veteran journalist and sports broadcaster. His career began at the Washington Post newspaper in Washington, D.C. Following that opportunity he became a freelance reporter with ABC Radio Sports.

Barr’s first venture in television was in Boston, anchoring the sports segment of the evening newscast. In addition, Barr announced New England Patriot pre-season football and Boston Celtic games.

Barr’s first network assignment was to host pre-game, half time and post-game shows of various NFL games for CBS Sports. Later, he moved to Seattle where he became the Sports Director for KIRO television. Also, while in Seattle, he announced Seattle Sonic NBA basketball and University of Washington football games.

Barr then became the sports anchor at KRON Television in San Francisco. Additionally, he broadcast Stanford and Cal football and basketball games. Barr won a prestigious Emmy Award for writing “From San Quentin to Candlestick.” This award-winning television feature chronicled a young prison convict’s “dream come true” opportunity to try out in front of San Francisco Giant players and front office personnel. It resulted in his getting invited to a spring training tryout with the Giants upon his release from prison.

Barr’s career includes broadcasting NBA basketball, NFL football, Major League Baseball, professional tennis, numerous college sporting events as well as several other major sporting events. His sports reporting resume includes 30 Super Bowls and 5 Olympic Games.

In 1988, Barr followed his heart and love for sports by launching America’s Sports Talk Show “Sports Byline USA.” This national, 3 hour, nightly sports talk show was the first national sports talk show and network, and has become America’s largest sports talk radio network. Heard on 200 U.S. radio stations, it reaches more than two and a half million American listeners. Also, it’s heard worldwide on the more than 500 American Forces Radio Network stations, in Canada and on Radio New Zealand. An in-flight version of Sports Byline USA is heard on all domestic and international ATA Airline flights. In July, 2002, the Sports Byline Network expanded to 24 hours a day with the launch of Sirius Satellite Radio. Sirius allows listeners to receive the Sports Byline programming in their cars, trucks, boats, planes, motorhomes, and homes coast to coast, without interruption. Sports Byline USA Network programming can be heard on Sirius Stream 122. In addition to Sports Byline USA and Sports OverNight America, additional programming includes The Wrestling Observer, Out and About, the Video Game Review as well as live sporting events.

Furthermore, Ron Barr’s voice and likeness are known worldwide. He is the sportscaster in more than a half dozen EA SPORTS video games. Millions of video game players know Ron Barr as the “voice of” NHL Hockey, Bill Walsh College Football, PGA Golf, FIFA Soccer and many other popular sports video games.

Barr sums up his career and love for sports saying, “I work in the toy department of life.”
